The US Transplant Games start this week. This is an Olympic-affiliated event in which recipients of organ transplants compete and celebrate their health. The event showcases the successes of the miracles of transplantation and pays tribute to the generosity of donor families and living donors. This year’s Games are being held in Louisville, KY.
The Games were first held in the US in 1986, and the NKF began its sponsorship in 1990. Several celebrities attend including Sean Elliot (kidney), Larry Hagman (liver), and Carl Lewis. George Lopez (kidney) is rumored to be attending his first Games this year, too.
