I’m so proud of Kentucky right now. I’ve sat here watching the opening ceremony of the World Equestrian Games. I don’t think I’ve ever been this proud of Kentucky before. I’ve cried, I’ve laughed. It’s been awesome. I stood and sang My Old Kentucky Home, because as a Kentuckian, that’s what you do. I even stood and applauded (I’m home alone) when Muhammed Ali came out. He was in a classic car with his family and waving and looked so proud. People in the stands stood up and screamed and yelled and applauded and chanted ALI ALI ALI!
I know nothing about this kind of horse showing. But to have it here in our backyard is amazing. This is a first for the US and a first for KY. We’ve been looking forward to this for five years now. Come the end of October, we’re all going to feel a little empty I think.
